Welcome to the 16th Waterford International Film Festival! After 2 years of the festival being solely online due to covid restrictions, we are delighted to be back presenting physical screenings on top of our online programme. Over the past 2 years despite the many challenges we all faced, the festival has been as active as possible online. In that time we created a third category with our Photography competition for Best Cinematic Image. The cover of this booklet was our 1st winner in 2021 and the image is by Caoimhe Murphy. In 2022 the festival was awarded the Remarkable Arts Festiva Label (2022-2023) from the European Festival Assocation. Also in 2022 the festival hit the top 100 Best Reviewed Festival’s list out of 10,000+ festivals registered with the online submission platform FILMFREEWAY.COM This year hundreds of submissions arrived at our doors from 30+ countries around the world for our annual competitions in Film, Screenwriting & Photography. It was a joy for us to review such a vast amount of impressive projects from many talented artists and getting to see so many stories from different backgrounds and cultures. From this years submissions we official selected over 170 short films from Irish & International Filmmakers. With our Short Screenplay competition, 80 Semi-Finalists was selected and this list was narrowed down to 20 Finlists. In the Photography competition 15 Finalists has been selected and the winner will be on the cover of our 2023 booklet. The films will be presented in the ODEON Cinema and Online. The Online programme will consist of over 170 Irish & International Short Films from award winning & debut filmmakers and it will run between 21-27 November. 34 films will screen in the ODEON cinema on the 26th & 27 of November and the winners will be announced for all competitions on Sunday the 27th of November in the ODEON. Our short programmes has a fabulous mix of different genres and stories both from home and abroad. We hope you enjoy this very diverse mix of storytelling from national & international talent.
