Vivek (UK) & Fixate (UK)
Sound System culture in the UK is largely responsible for fusing reggae, dub and dancehall vibes into the modern soundscapes. V.I.V.E.K (He puts the dots in to confuse people sometimes) founded the SYSTEM dance nights within London as a homage to the sound systems which brought so much bass to the UK. Vivek has been kicking it on the UK bass scene since the earlier 2000’s, however really hit his stride through the SYSTEM nights and System Sound label which were founded in 2012. A well respected producer with a focus on the 140 bpm sounds commonly categorised as Dubstep – his productions are equal parts dub and steppers. A true soldier of the underground – Vivek has guided his label into a powerhouse of UK Bass culture with releases from himself as well as artists like Versa, Foamplate & LAS. Vivek will be playing at Sideway on the Communifi rig – and frankly we can’t wait for the UK Sound System boss dog to let loose on Canberra’s own backyard sound system come Sideway club install. Expect a bass ridden sonic explosion!Whilst Vivek is going to be bringing the Dub and Bass – the man by the name of Fixate will be bringing the Drum and Bass. Signed on D-Bridge’s EXIT records since 2015 when his EP Throwback Therapy was released, Fixate has gone from strength to strength. In 2016 he was revealed to be part of the infamous DnB supergroup “Richie Brains” alongside Alix Perez, Chimpo, Fracture, Om Unit, Sam Binga and Stray. His late 2017 mini-LP release saw him work alongside Skeptical and Dismantle in addition to his solo tracks – The release is a great example of his production skill. Earlier this year he released the Fixate Refix of Double 99 – Ripgroove which is an absolute killer. With a sound palette inspired by Drum and Bass, Jungle, Dubstep & Grime he continues to expand and build upon these foundations. Fixate is one of the most exciting young talents within the UK Bass scene.
